Period first month of ortho tri cylen lo?

I am on the placebo pills in the first month of ortho tri cylen lo. I am not sexual active. I was put on it for my bad cramps. I am on the 4th placebo pill and take it at 11 pm every day. I've been spotting for 2 days no rather than having my period but i have cramps. Is this normal? Do i think this is spotting when it may actually be a period although there is not really any flow?
