Why does my monitor look funny?

I recently changed the location of my desktop. So that meant unplugging everything and plugging it back in again. I bought my monitor a longer cord so it could reach. (ok it was really an extender.) but now my monitor looks all funny. the words are bigger than they used to be and more jagged. I hate it. what do I do to fix it?
