Skipped the placebo pills, and got my period the week before the next placebos..? ?

Sooo I'm 18, and I've been on birth control for about 2 years now, and I've never screwed them up other then forgetting to take one here and there, but always took it the next night. Anyways, I was almost finished a pack, all I had left was the week of placebos, but when Sunday came, I managed to screw up and start a new package and not take the placebos, ..I know its okay to do that once in a while if you have something you want to miss a period for, so I just continued to take the pills from the new pack .. here we are 2 weeks later (next week I'd be taking the placebos in this pack), and I seem to have started my period. But its not like they usually are, theres blood but not a whole lot, but there is quite a bit of light and some dark brown discharge, and its been going on for about 3 days now. ..and I was just wondering if that was suppose to happen .. considering skipping placebos is used to skip a period. .. soo if anyone could help me out that'd be much appreciated. .? :)
